László Károly has been Chair and Professor of Turkic Languages at the Department of Linguistics and Philology of the Uppsala University since 2016.

His academic background is in Altaic languages, historical-comparative linguistics and philology. His current research focuses on on the Turkic runiform inscriptions of Eurasia, the Middle Turkic languages, Siberian Turkic, and word-formation.
